As usual hackers once again hackers beat the security of the
most famous social media app or site which is Facebook all over the world and
it also contains 2.4 billion users and again due to the poor security or
privacy of Facebook, hackers hack more than 267 millions of users ID on
Facebook and they leaked this data on the dark web, means the data can be used
for illegal works also and only Facebook is responsible for all the data leaked
from their security.
As this is the time of pandemic all over the world due to such virus, but in this time most of the
peoples spend their rime on the social media apps and website to communicate
with their friends, family members, and relatives. But this news really shocked
everyone because of the huge name of Facebook.
This is not for the first time when hackers easily beat the
security of Facebook but even they never focus more on the security of
their data and compromise with the security and privacy of their users. Earlier
also, Facebook has been caught sharing their private data with third-parties and
app developers multiple times over the past year. In those incidents the data
was sharing only for marketing purpose, But the latest scandal is much more
devious, as a database containing roughly 267 million Facebook profiles have
been found listed on the dark web for just over $600.
Researchers from cybersecurity intelligence firm Cybele
discovered the database and actually purchased it to verify that the data is
real. Unfortunately, it is, and most of the profiles in the database are from
users in the U.S. The leak may harm the personal data of the users and the
records contain the following information:-
·
Full
name
·
Date
of birth
·
Unique
Facebook ID
·
Phone
number
·
Gender
The safe news in this is only that none of the stolen data
contains passwords. However, that doesn’t mean it’s not useful to
cybercriminals. With this cache of information, a scammer could perform
spear-phishing or SMS attacks that could result in unsuspecting victims handing
over their credentials or worse. You might see emails or receive texts that
appear to be from Facebook, for example, asking you to verify your credentials
or other sensitive information. Since the scammers behind these attacks could
have some of your personal information already, they will use it to make the
messages appear official. Don’t fall for it! It’s unknown how all of this
personal information was collected at this time. However, it’s possible that
the data was leaked by third-party API or scraping.
